How to use YouTube without the recommendation feed
Build a search-first or subscriptions-first viewing routine, with optional filters for recommendations and autoplay inside ScrollFix.
Begin with the video or channel you intended to watch. In ScrollFix, supported YouTube filters let you hide home recommendations and disable autoplay in the in-app browsing experience. Choose these separately from the Shorts filter.
Choose your destination first
Before opening YouTube, decide whether you are looking for a specific answer, a new upload from a channel, or a saved video. Search, subscriptions, and saved items serve different purposes from browsing whatever the home feed suggests.
A useful test is whether you can describe what will make the visit complete. For a tutorial, it might be learning one step. For entertainment, it might be finishing a video you chose. You do not have to turn every visit into work; the aim is to make the choice yours.
Separate the controls
- Shorts: a short-form feed you may want to hide.
- Home recommendations: suggested videos that can redirect a visit before you search.
- Autoplay: continuation after the video you selected.
- Comments: a separate part of a video page, with optional filtering in ScrollFix.
Enable only the filters relevant to your goal. If recommendations help you discover music, for example, you may choose to retain them while removing Shorts.
A simple viewing workflow
- Open YouTube within ScrollFix.
- Check the supported filter choices in the YouTube controls.
- Search for your intended video or open subscriptions.
- Finish the task or chosen video, then decide deliberately whether to continue.
Account features require signing in to YouTube. The original YouTube app is a separate experience and is not changed by these browsing filters.
Review what actually helped
After a few days, consider whether the interface still supports the things you value. If a useful feature is missing, check the filters you enabled. If you are simply taking a different route to the same distracting feed, an app limit or a change to your opening routine may be more helpful than another filter.
